Avignon, for some reason, didn't strike me as being very exciting. Its old town was surrounded by old city walls and contained the Palace of the Popes. That and Pont d' Avignon were beautiful, especially the garden of the Palace with its view of the Rhône. However, the city itself was far too high-end and somewhat Americanized to be interesting. Before entering Avignon, there was a huge complex with KFC (which, guiltily, we bought for lunch on the way home. There's no KFC here), McDonald, and a strip mall. There were also a bunch of hooligans trying to wash car windshields for coins but the way they did it was unpleasant: they targeted cars with foreign plates and crowded the car banging the windows. Despite being hardened by the streets of Jakarta, I felt quite unsettled.
After touring the Palace, I took a peek into the town. I turned back the moment I found Hermes just a step out of Place du Palais and decided to just sit in the square people watching. Thus, there was very few pictures here.
